چکیده مقاله:

Corrosion of steel is one of the most important potential dangers and threats in concrete structures. Corrosion of steel embedded in reinforced concrete plays a key role in reducing the strength and durability of reinforced concrete. Several studies have proposed that alternative approaches to enhancing the performance of reinforced concrete and its resistance to corrosion. In this study, the results of steel corrosion embedded in reinforced concrete with silica fume and Nano-silica particles are presented. For testing, samples with a mixture of these particles ranging from 0 to 133 grams were generated and their performance was compared using Corrosion Potential (OCP), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Linear Polarization (LPR), and TOEFL polarization tests. The results demonstrate that silica fume is effective in reducing permeability of the concrete against malicious (adverse) ions, but nano-silica had far satisfying performance in reducing the corrosion rate of steel embedded in concrete.

Influence of Silica Fume on Normal Concrete

The incorporation of silica fume into the normal concrete is a routine one in the present days to produce the tailor made high strength and high performance concrete. The design parameters are increasing with the incorporation of silica fume in conventional concrete and the mix proportioning is becoming complex. The main objective of this paper has been made to investigate the different mechani...

Influence of Silica Fume on Chloride Resistance of Concrete

A series of concrete slabs were cast with 0, 7, and 12% by mass silica fume replacement of cement at W/CM = 0.35, 0.40, and 0.45. After either moist or steam curing, a variety of chloride resistance tests were performed. These included AASHTO T259, modified T259, T277, as well as several bulk diffusion tests and sorptivity tests. Results indicate that the use of properly dispersed silica fume r...

Improving the workability and strength of silica fume concrete by using silane-treated silica fume

Mortar with high workability even without a water-reducing agent and with high tensile and compressive strengths (3.1 and 78 MPa, respectively) was obtained by using as an admixture silica fume that had been surface treated with a silane coupling agent. The treatment enhanced the wettability of silica fume by water, thereby increasing the workability of the mortar mix. It also enhanced the bond...

Significance of Silica Fume in Enhancing the Quality of Concrete

In the Refractories world three decades ago, very few people were acquainted to silica fume and its usage. After a few years, it was used as an additive to brick. When added to high Alumina brick, mullite was formed in the matrix of the brick on firing, giving the brick good volume stability, strength and chemical resistance. When used in basic brick, high hot strengths resulted, at least at 27...

Flexural Fatigue Strength of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete Containing Blends of Limestone Powder and Silica Fume

Based upon the statistical distribution of flexural fatigue life data and flexural fatigue strength of the steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) containing blends of limestone powder (LP) and silica fume (SF), the influence of these inserts on the flexural fatigue performance of concretes is probed. Concrete mixes were proportioned to replace 30% cement with these mineral inserts in different ...
